Submission Guidelines
The Jewish Publication Society has modified our publishing categories, to provide the kinds of works that best suit our readers. JPS welcomes submissions in our fields of publication, listed below.
Books for Adults
JPS will accept submissions in the following categories:
- Bible Commentaries
- General Bible Study
- Bible Scholarship
- Modern Midrash
- Gift books on Bible Topics
- JPS Guides
- Interfaith Studies
- Jewish Ethics & Jewish Thought
- Scholarly editions of Classical, Rabbinic, and Medieval Texts
JPS will not accept submissions in the following categories:
- Fiction & Poetry
- Memoir & Biography
- Holocaust Studies
- Ritual & Religious Practice
- Holidays & Life Cycle
- Spirituality & Inspirational Texts
- Monographs
- Women's & Gender Studies
- Theology
- Hasidism & Mysticism
- Folklore
Books for Children
JPS is not accepting submissions for children's books or Young Adult fiction at this time.
Book Queries
If you are interested in having us consider your book for publication, please send a 1-page query that includes:
- A brief description of the book
- Your target audience
- Your qualifications for writing the book
- Names of other published work on the same topic, with an explanation of how your proposed work is different
- Your curriculum vitae or resumé including your email, address, and phone number
Attach a self-addressed, stamped envelope for reply. You will be asked to submit a formal proposal if we are interested in your query.
Book Proposals
If you have been asked to submit a formal proposal, please review the JPS Book Proposal Guidelines and prepare your proposal and manuscript sample accordingly.
